The Midweek Margarita: Cinco de Mayo Mocktails
For lovers of all things food and beverage, Cinco de Mayo is the quintessential Mardi Gras of Taco Tuesdays. A celebratory event commemorating an historical win for the Mexican Army back in the 1800’s, many Americans have adopted this day of homage and have chosen to honor it by consuming a copious amount of authentic Mexican fare. As a society, we love to attach specialty eats to our celebrations. It’s why we like chili with our Super Bowl, green beer with our St.Patrick’s Day, and a grilled hot dog with our 4th of July. After all, food traditions are the easiest, most tangible way to stay connected to a festivity and to the people with whom you might choose to celebrate.
As Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner, it’s time to consider which indulgences you might want filling your plate and your cup this year. And if you are just now realizing the 5th of May falls on a Wednesday and you’re on the morning carpool shift Thursday, you might want to sub in this delicious booze-free recipe for a margarita mocktail. There is certainly no room to fall like the French Empire did in 1862 when you’re on the hook to scoop up little Johnny and Susie for school. Besides, you can always recreate the deliciousness with a little tequila topper on the subsequent Flashback Friday.
